FIA 8853/2016 Approved Harnesses
The tough new FIA 8853/2016 standard replaces the old 8853/98 standard for 6-point road racing harnesses.
Why should I want FIA approved driver restraints?
FIA homologated harnesses are labeled with an expiration date that is usually at least four years from the date of sale, and most sanctioning organizations will honor that date.
SFI belts are labeled with the date of manufacture, and the SFI requires these belts to be replaced two years after the date of manufacture.
This means that FIA approved belts may be less expensive in the long run. Check with your sanctioning organization to verify their current policy. SCCA rules specifically honor the later expiration date for belts with both SFI and FIA labels.
