If you need to support your steering shaft but you don't want to do a lot of welding and fabricating, this bolt-on bearing may be the answer!
This support assembly includes a 3/4" ID bearing which fits over our Splined Steel Steering Shafts (Part No. 1496, sold separately). The bearing can be tilted up to 25° relative to the flange. Once in place, the bearing only allows rotation of the shaft (it does not allow tilting like a spherical bearing). Two set screws help keep the shaft from spinning in the bearing, preventing wear on the shaft. The 2-piece mounting flange is designed to sandwich the bearing, mounting on either side of your firewall with two 5/16" bolts (not included). Requires a 1 7/8" (48mm) hole in the firewall; mounting bolt center-to-center distance 2.80".
Note: The mounting flange is designed for use with a flat firewall constructed of 0.030" (22 gauge sheet steel). Clamping over a firewall thicker than 0.030" will lead to free play in the assembly. If your firewall is thicker than 0.030", you should mount both halves of the flange on one side of the firewall.
The extended "snout" on the bearing can point either way. We recommend installing the bearing so the set screws are in the most easily accessible position.
