Pre-heating the oil in the tank of a dry sump engine is a great way to minimize engine damage at start-up. When you first start your engine, the viscosity of the cold oil can be high enough to cause the oil pump to cavitate. This results in greatly reduced oil flow to the bearings and camshaft. Because of the high viscosity, your pressure gauge may show high pressure, even if the engine is not getting an adequate volume of oil. This is especially critical on racing engines because of the large bearing clearances that are often used.
Our Large Heater Blanket is rated at 280 watts / 120 volts AC. This size is recommended for our large oil tank or other tanks of similar size. Comes completely assembled with cord and plug.
Note: These heater blankets cannot be shortened by cutting. Plugging them in for more than 30 seconds when they are not in contact with a heat sink (such as an oil tank) will overheat them and severely reduce their life.
Use our Self-Bonding Silicone Rubber Tape (Part No. 3929, sold separately) to install this blanket around your oil tank.
