For the ultimate in fuel scavenging, install a surge tank inside your fuel cell. A surge tank is the best way to prevent fuel starvation without overfilling your fuel cell.

This rigid plastic tank measures approximately 6 inches x 6 inches x 4 inches high. Three integral one-way ball check valves trap up to 1/2 gallon of fuel inside the surge tank to keep it near the pickup. The empty tank weighs approximately 18 ounces, less than the weight of a quarter gallon of extra fuel.

Simply place the surge tank on the bottom of your fuel cell, held in place by your fuel cell foam (you will probably have to trim away some foam to make room). For best results, we recommend locating the tank against the front wall of the fuel cell for road racing. Fuel will slosh into the tank under braking and will be ready for acceleration through the corner. Secure your fuel pickup hose or in-tank pump inside the surge tank, and the check valves will do the rest!
