This clever unit displays the current gear selected on virtually any vehicle with an RPM signal and a road speed signal. A large LED window displays the gear number in your choice of color, while a row of 8 LEDs above provides sequential shift light with 6 selectable patterns. Compact housing measures 62mm tall x 50mm wide x 23mm thick (2.44" x 2" x 15/16").
Microprocessor control compares the RPM signal to the speed signal to calculate which gear is engaged. You don't have to do any math, even during setup! Programming the gears is as easy as driving at a constant speed (ANY speed) in each gear for just a few seconds. The new, more flexible programming menu lets you set the pulses per revolution and RPM levels numerically, or by the traditional Cartek half-RPM method (just run the engine at half the desired RPM and press the programming button). Either way, you set the beginning and top RPM and the Cartek Shift Light automatically calculates the steps in between. This unit has a built-in RPM signal filter to deal with "noisy" ignition signals such as the Bosch Blue coil (the filter can be switched off if the signal pulses are clean and steady).
12-volt, negative ground indicator is compatible with breaker-point ignitions or any ignition system with an RPM signal output. Any type of electronic speed sensor can be used, including OEM or aftermarket. The number of pulses per revolution, wheel diameter, and units of speed (mph/kph) do not matter. Cars with OBD-II compliant ECUs should use the Cartek OBD-II Gear Indicator (Part No. 1068-162) instead to get these signals from the ECU. Instructions included.
