Cape Chisels have a very narrow edge for cutting or dressing slots, keyways, and oiling grooves. The head tapers in slightly behind the cutting edge to avoid binding or damaging the sides of the slot. As the sides of the head taper in, the top and bottom flare out for strength.
The 37 Series cape chisels from Beta Tools are designed for a lifetime of professional use. The "ribbed" design has an X-shaped cross-section, allowing greater strength than a hex-profile grip without a significant weight increase. Each has the series number and length stamped around the shank above the grip portion.
This steel cape chisel measures 200mm (7 7/8") long (L) with an 8mm (5/16") wide blade (A) and 22mm (7/8") X-profile grip (S). The head measures 55mm (2 5/32") long (L1). Sold individually.
This is the same chisel included as part of the Beta Tools 37PM/200 Ribbed Cape Chisel with Hand Guard (Part No. BT-000370012). This 37/200 chisel can be used to replace a worn or damaged chisel from the 37PM/200 assembly.
