The 1440 Series band-type spring compressors from Beta Tools are designed with a wide range of adjustment. This allows one tool to cover multiple bore sizes, so you don't have to duplicate your tool investment every time you build a new engine.
To use, apply a thin film of clean motor oil to the inside of the band and slip it over your assembled piston. Turn the L-handle to tighten the band and compress the piston rings. The ratcheting mechanism will hold tension in the band. Place the compressor tightly against the opening of the cylinder bore and slide the piston into the cylinder. Once the piston is installed, release the compressor by slowly unwinding the handle while holding down the orange ratchet release button.
This 1440/1 compressor is suitable for most automobile engines. It adjusts to fit bore sizes of 57mm to 125mm (2.245" to 4.921"). The 80mm (3 1/8") length is tall enough for most modern piston designs.
This is the correct size to use for Ford 1.6L "Kent" FF1600 and 2.0L SOHC Pinto engines.
