True Vernier calipers are a measuring tool designed for day-in, day-out use by professionals. With just one major moving part, accuracy rarely varies. They are especially useful as "go-no go" gauges: Just set the desired measurement, lock the jaws, and check the part to be measured. The primary drawback is that learning to read the scale takes practice.
The 1650 Series vernier calipers from Beta Tools are constructed of stainless steel for durability. Dual scales read to 0.05mm or 1/128" (0.0078125", about the thickness of a sheet of paper). Dual jaws measure inside and outside dimensions, and an automatically-extending tail measures depth. The jaws are spring-loaded to lock in place (press the trigger to unlock and move the jaws; release the trigger to lock them).
This size measures up to 200mm (A). The outside jaws measure 49mm long (B), and the overall length when closed is 290mm (L). The main body measures 16mm wide x 3mm thick (HxS). Weighs 230g. (A=7.87", B=2", L=11.4", HxS=0.63" x 0.12", weight 8.1 oz) Includes a protective leather sheath.
