Replace your main bearing cap bolts with high-strength ARP main studs for improved engine life under the most demanding conditions!
Main studs locate the main bearing caps more securely than bolts alone, which means less tendency for the caps to walk and fret the mating surfaces. Studs also provide more accurate and consistent clamping force because the fastener does not twist when you apply your torque wrench. Studs only get installed once (rather than at every rebuild), which reduces the chances of damage to the female threads in the block.
ARP main studs are made from 8740 chrome moly steel, heat-treated to 200,000 psi tensile strength with J-form threads that are rolled (not cut) after heat treatment (not before) for unmatched strength and precision.
This set fits the 385-Series 429/460 big-block Ford V8 engine with 2-bolt main caps. Includes main studs, matching hardened washers and nuts, and a packet of ARP assembly lube.
Note 1: If you will be installing the Ford Racing windage tray, you should use the ARP Main Stud Kit for Ford 429/460 2-Bolt Main Big Blocks wtih Windage Tray (Part No. ARP255-5502).
Note 2: 1970 and later 429 Cobra Jet, 1971 and later 429 Super Cobra Jet, 429 Police Interceptor, Boss 429, and 429/460 truck blocks (D7TE or D8TE blocks) should use the ARP Main Stud Kit for Ford 429/460 4-Bolt Main Big Blocks (Part No. ARP155-5501). FE-series big blocks require the ARP Main Stud Kit for Ford FE-Series Big Blocks (Part No. ARP155-5401).
