The revolutionary 78-Series master cylinders are lightweight and compact. The unique pivoting rear mount and one-piece pushrod/piston unit eliminate unwanted sideways loads in the bore. This eliminates friction and provides the smoothest, most consistent master cylinder action available. The cut-off port travel can be customized with the use of shims (sold separately) to increase or decrease pedal free play. Outlet port is 3AN (3/8-24); inlet thread is 6AN (9/16-18). Inlet fitting sold separately. Despite the compact size, this 7/8" (0.875") bore master cylinder delivers a full 1.1" stroke. The EPDM seals are formulated to work with any DOT-rated brake fluid (not for use with hydraulic oil). Tilton 78 Series master cylinders replace the 77 Series. They are identical in every respect except for the addition of a dust boot on the 78 Series.
Note 1: Tilton 78-Series master cylinders are designed to be used with Tilton 900-Series Pedal Assemblies (such as Part No. TE 72-903) or a Tilton 900-Series Balance Bar. They will not work with conventional pedal setups, and the 3/8-24 pushrod will not work with conventional balance bars (conventional pushrod threads are 5/16-24).
Note 2: Inlet fitting is sold separately. We offer two solutions that fit the 9/16-18 threads in the inlet port:
Our 4AN Male to 9/16-18 Male Fitting (Part No. TE 77-015) is a straight male-to-male fitting. It includes a copper crush washer.
Our 14mm to 4AN Banjo Adapter (Part No. 3265-46) points the inlet hose to the side for low-clearance applications. This fitting requires a 9/16-18 Banjo Bolt (Part No. 3242-026) and 9/16" Aluminum Crush Washers (Part No. 3278-06), all sold separately.
