Distributorless Ignition Systems (DIS) can be tricky to hook up aftermarket tachometers and shift lights. This Tach Adapter from Auto Meter makes it easy again! Most applications are as easy as splicing into the 12 volt power supply wire to your ignition coils.* The DIS Tach Adapter senses the power pulses going to the coils and converts it to a 12 volt square wave signal that Auto Meter tachometers and shift lights can read. Works with all Auto Meter tachometers and shift lights. Not compatible with CD ignition systems such as MSD.**
* The late-model Dodge Hemi™ engine with coil-on-plug ignition is one notable exception. This particular installation is very complicated and is not recommended for the novice!
** Most CD ignitions, including MSD, do not require this adapter. Most CD ignitions (except MSD) can get the RPM signal directly off the coil, as on a points ignition. Most MSD systems have a dedicated RPM signal output. MSD-5 will require an MSD tach adapter.
